Helping to place product support information into the hands of service technicians for troubleshooting and repairs, Carrier Transicold Global Container Refrigeration recently launched several new web applications. Among them are "Mobile-Friendly" instruction manuals and a "Technician's Toolbox" with a handy Alarm Code Lookup feature and various measurement conversion tools. "With more service technicians having access to smartphones and tablets connecting them to the Internet, this is a logical extension of our traditional reference materials," explained David Whyte, project manager, Service Engineering, Global Container Refrigeration. The new Mobile-Friendly Manual application provides access to operation and service manuals for the NaturaLINE ® , PrimeLINE ® and ThinLINE ® container refrigeration units, plus the XtendFRESH ™ atmosphere control system and all four current versions of PowerLINE ® generator sets. Mobile- Friendly Manuals are optimized for reading in horizontal or vertical format on a smartphone or tablet and include a convenient navigation bar with a touch-activated table of contents, alphabetical index and search tool. The manuals contain all the text and visuals found in the standard equipment manual, and pinch-to-zoom enables closer study of detailed illustrations. "Additionally, videos are embedded within the manuals to support technical instructions and maintenance procedures, taking on a more vital role in the technician's learning," Whyte said. "These features are especially advantageous, allowing the technician to become proficient and more knowledgeable faster." For those who might want to print pages for reference, the Mobile-Friendly Manuals application also provides access to PDF versions of each manual. The Alarm Code Lookup application is a handy troubleshooting resource. Once the alarm code is entered, the application provides the basic alarm description, potential causes and repair actions, simplifying troubleshooting and saving time. Although alarm descriptions and causes are typically the same across all Carrier Transicold models, the troubleshooting and corrective action steps are model-specific, so the Alarm Code Lookup feature includes decision logic to guide the technician to the right solution for the model. The Alarm Code Lookup is one of three tools provided through the Technician's Toolbox. Other tools are Temperature/Pressure conversion calculators and a Sensor-Resistance tool. The Temperature/Pressure tool includes Celsius-to-Fahrenheit calculators and R-134a and R-744 (carbon dioxide) calculators that display pressure in pounds per square inch or bar for the refrigerant, based on temperature. The Sensor-Resistance tool enables the input of a single variable – temperature (in degrees C or F) or ohms to get the reciprocal value. All of the tools, as well as the Mobile-Friendly Manual application, are web- based, eliminating the need to purchase or install an application. Simply visit www.carrier.com/container and find the tools by clicking on SERVICE & SUPPORT from the blue menu bar near the top of the page. All of the mobile applications can also be accessed from a laptop or desktop computer. w Technology in the Palm of Your Hand New Web Tools Aid in Service Troubleshooting To help assure Carrier Transicold's container refrigeration systems and generator sets are maintained by service personnel with a solid understanding of everything from fundamentals to the newest advanced features, Carrier Transicold offers a comprehensive suite of educational courses for service and repair, with emphasis on hands-on skill development. Available to authorized service center personnel and customers who operate their own container maintenance programs, the curriculum is available year- round. Carrier Transicold professional trainers travel the globe bringing the classroom to the students. "Our program helps assure customers that their refrigeration equipment is being maintained by well-trained, skilled service professionals," said Thomas Graf, global training manager, Container Service. "Carrier Transicold's modular programs cover the information needs of technicians of all experience levels." Alan Espey, owner of service center Hunt Refrigeration Inc. in Montreal, agrees that factory training is essential to his operation. "It provides our technicians with the knowledge and procedures that enable faster diagnosis, more effective repairs and, in the end, makes our business more efficient," he said. Registration is limited and usually closes about a month before the course is scheduled. For the complete schedule and detailed information about specific courses, please visit www.carrier.com/container.
