It could be said that each Carrier Transicold container refrigeration unit is special, but earlier this year, long-standing customer CMA CGM was presented with a PrimeLINE ® unit that can truly be called "one in a million." That's because it was the 1 millionth container refrigeration unit ever produced by Carrier, an achievement 46 years in the making. While holding true to the classic "picture frame" design Carrier pioneered, the model presented to the world's third largest container shipping fleet is light years ahead of the original 1968 model in terms of efficiency, environmental sustainability and capabilities. The milestone unit is equipped with Carrier's new XtendFRESH ™ system that uses advanced technology to control the container atmosphere and preserve the quality of perishables over longer-duration voyages. "The 1 millionth container unit is an accomplishment not only for our company and the thousands of employees around the world who have helped make it possible, but for the marine shipping industry," said David Appel, president, Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems. 1,000,000: CMA CGM Presented Milestone Carrier Container Refrigeration Unit Commemorating Carrier Transicold's 1 millionth container refrigeration unit during a ceremony at Carrier's Singapore plant, where it was produced, are Chiou Fun Sin, president, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold, left, and Alexis Michel, senior vice president, Container and Reefer Logistics, CMA CGM. Also participating in the presentation, which was done at Carrier Transciold's Singapore plant, Chiou Fun Sin, president, Global Container Refrigeration, Carrier Transicold, said, "This milestone unit demonstrates the technological progress we are making to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining best-in-class performance, helping move shippers toward more environmentally sustainable refrigerants and bringing further innovations in system efficiency and cargo protection along the way." Receiving the unit for CMA CGM was Alexis Michel, the shipping line's senior vice president of container logistics. "In addition to our commitment to offering high-quality solutions at every stage of the transport cycle, CMA CGM is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable business operations," Michel said. "We have significantly reduced our carbon footprint over the past 10 years, and we are always seeking out new technologies that will help us reach our sustainability goals while also meeting our high standards for performance and efficiency. The PrimeLINE unit wins on both of these fronts, which is why we have been building up our fleet with PrimeLINE units since they were launched in 2008.
