"As energy production moves away from fossil fuels to more sustainable sources, it is also logical that we no longer use refrigerants with high GWP," van Beek said. "The NaturaLINE system's use of a natural refrigerant makes it an ideal match for our battery system." Alfen offers a diverse portfolio of power solutions including transformer substations, electrical distribution systems, charging stations for electric vehicles and energy storage systems that can store sustainably produced power from wind farms and solar arrays. TheBattery is housed in a modified insulated storage container with the NaturaLINE unit mounted on one end. Inside, the container houses racks of battery packs, energy storage inverters, controls and a cooling system. Since the refrigeration unit itself is powered by TheBattery, efficient operation is essential. "Efficiency – a high coefficient of performance – and low GWP were key factors in selection of the NaturaLINE unit," van Beek said.
